Gemini 4 Carbon: what it is, how it scores, and when you can use it

A plain-English guide to Gemini 4 Carbon, Google’s newest frontier model, written by an independent studio that is not affiliated with Google. Gemini 4 Carbon is not available on this site.

01 — Overview

The short version

Gemini 4 Carbon is the frontier AI model Google announced on October 28, 2026. It arrived roughly two weeks after Gemini 4 Argon and, by Google’s account, it is a big jump over Argon. Google describes Gemini 4 Carbon as its strongest model, with state-of-the-art results in cybersecurity and long-horizon tasks, better usability in domains like coding, and improved alignment.

The catch is access. Gemini 4 Carbon is going to cyber defenders first, and Google plans to widen availability through its Fairwind Program. There is no public release date, so most people reading about Gemini 4 Carbon cannot use it yet.

02 — Benchmarks

How Gemini 4 Carbon performs

The headline number is first place on the updated Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index v5.0, with a score of 59. That index was made harder in its latest version, so a first-place finish for Gemini 4 Carbon is a meaningful signal rather than a saturated leaderboard. Rankings do vary by evaluator: Vals AI lists Gemini 4 Carbon second of 29 models on its Vals Index at 70.36%.

Cybersecurity is where Gemini 4 Carbon stands out most. Reported scores are 88.2% on SEC-bench Pro for finding vulnerabilities, 54.8% on ExploitGym for exploiting them and 71.0% on CWE-bench for patching them. That mix explains the cautious rollout: a model that is strong at finding and exploiting flaws is useful to defenders and attackers alike, so Google is giving defenders a head start.

Long-horizon work is the other theme. Gemini 4 Carbon is built to keep a plan together over many steps, which matters for agents, large refactors and research tasks that run for a long time.

03 — Pricing

What Gemini 4 Carbon costs

Reported introductory pricing for Gemini 4 Carbon is $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens, with cached input tokens 95% cheaper than regular input. Some coverage says the price will rise to $4 and $20 per million tokens after the introductory period, but Google’s announcement does not clearly confirm that. Treat any Gemini 4 Carbon price you read, including ours, as provisional until Google’s pricing page says otherwise.

04 — Access

How to get Gemini 4 Carbon access

  1. Cyber defenders first. Security teams are the first group with Gemini 4 Carbon access.
  2. The Fairwind Program. Google says it will expand Gemini 4 Carbon availability through this program.
  3. General availability. No date yet. Expect it through Google’s own products and developer platforms.

Be wary of sites that claim to sell Gemini 4 Carbon access today. Before launch, Gemini 4 Carbon was reportedly available only internally at Google, through an internal coding environment called Jetski, according to Business Insider. A third-party site offering “Gemini 4 Carbon generation” right now is almost certainly running a different model.

What you can do on Carbon Studio instead

Gemini 4 Carbon is a text, code and agent model. It is not an image, video or music generator, so even after Gemini 4 Carbon opens up, you will still want dedicated media models for visual and audio work. That is what Carbon Studio offers today, clearly labelled:

  • AI images with Nano Banana 2.1, GPT Image 2.5, Seedream 5.0, FLUX 3 and Midjourney.
  • AI video with Veo 3.1, Kling 4.0, Seedance 2.5, Wan 3.0 and Hailuo 2.3.
  • AI music with Suno v6 and Flow Music.

We will update this Gemini 4 Carbon guide as Google publishes new details. If Gemini 4 Carbon becomes publicly available through official channels, we will say so here and explain exactly how, or whether, it fits into the studio.
